Creating a Custom Map Search in RealScout

Summary

Custom Map Search lets you define a specific geographic boundary directly on the map to find and monitor listings within that area. You draw the boundary using the pencil icon on the search page, apply filters to refine results, and save the search to receive ongoing listing alerts.

How It Works

On the RealScout search page, you use the pencil icon to draw a freehand boundary directly on the map. RealScout returns listings that fall within the shape you define. You can zoom in or out to increase accuracy before drawing, apply filters to narrow the results further, and save the search with a custom name and alert schedule.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Drawing a Custom Map Boundary

  1. Go to the search page in RealScout.

  2. Use the plus (+) and minus (-) icons on the map to zoom in or out to your target area.

  3. Click the pencil icon on the map to activate the drawing tool.

  4. Click on the map to place points around the area you want to define. Each click sets a new point along the boundary.

  5. Click on the first point you placed to close the shape and complete the boundary.

  6. Use the filter options along the top of the page to further refine your results by criteria such as price, property type, or bedroom count.

  7. Review matching listings displayed on the left-hand side of the page.

Saving the Search

  1. Click the Save Search button on the map.

  2. Enter a custom search name.

  3. Set your preferred alert schedule.

  4. Click Save to confirm.

RealScout will send alerts when new listings match your filters within the drawn boundary.

Redrawing the Boundary

If you want to start over with a new boundary:

  1. Click the clear pencil icon on the map to erase the current shape.

  2. Draw a new boundary by clicking points on the map again.

  3. Close the shape by clicking the first point.

Common Questions and Edge Cases

Can I adjust the boundary after saving the search?
You cannot edit a drawn boundary in place. To change it, clear the current shape using the clear pencil icon, redraw the boundary, and save the search again.

Can I apply filters before or after drawing the boundary?
You can apply filters after drawing the boundary. Use the filter options along the top of the search page once your shape is complete.

Can I save more than one custom map search?
Yes. You can save multiple searches, including a mix of map-drawn and standard location-based searches.

What happens if no listings match within my boundary?
RealScout will not send an alert until a listing that matches your filters becomes available within the drawn area. The saved search remains active and continues to monitor for new matches.
