Tag-based automation assigns Listing Alert Templates and Market Activity Alert Templates in RealScout automatically, based on tags you manage in Follow Up Boss. It is an alternative to Auto Nurture for when you want precise control over which contacts receive which alert type.
How the automation behaves: RealScout checks for tag matches once per hour. Tags are not case-sensitive, and any matching tag between a contact and a Template creates an alert for that contact. Templates cannot be edited after creation — create a new Template to change location or criteria.
Create Listing Alert Templates
Quick overview: Listing & Market Alert Templates
Go to Templates in your sidebar and click + Create a Template.
Copy an existing client search, or set up a new Listing Alert with your criteria and schedule preference.
Name your Template descriptively (e.g., "Luxury Condo Downtown") and save it.
Note: The default Listing Alert schedule is Daily unless changed. Clients receive at most 3 emails per week, on match days (Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday).
Add the trigger tag: enter your Template-specific tag in the tag field during creation:
If you skipped that step, add a tag to an existing Template from the Templates page: click the three-dot menu (⋮), select Edit Tags, enter the tag, and click DONE.
Create Market Activity Alert Templates
Quick overview: Market Activity Alert Templates
Go to Templates → Market Alert Templates and click + Create New Template.
Define the market area: a predefined market (city, zip code, neighborhood, or school from the Market selector) or a custom area drawn on the map. Use zip codes for broader coverage, custom boundaries for precise targeting.
Set optional price ranges to focus the buyer activity.
Click Preview Market Report, then Save as Template, and name it descriptively.
Market Activity Alerts are less frequent than a daily search and include RealScout's Active Buyer counts and interactions for your location, areas with popular listings, Active Buyers over time, and top viewed, popular, recently sold, and recently listed or updated listings.
Add the trigger tag the same way as Listing Alert Templates — during creation:
— or later via the three-dot menu (⋮) → Edit Tags on the Market Alert Templates page:
Manage tags in Follow Up Boss
Add a tag: open a Contact Profile → Details (left side) → Add Tag or the blue + button → search or create the tag → Save Tags.
Manage tags in bulk: go to People, filter to the desired contacts, select them (or Select All), click the Tag icon → Add/Remove Tags, and apply.
Filter by tags: go to People → All People → Filters, select Tags as the filter type, and choose a condition (has, doesn't have, has any of); combine filters for precise searching.
Reminder: RealScout does not trigger alerts based on contact type or stage — automation runs on tags, checked hourly. Follow Up Boss admins and Account Owners can also set up Action Plans that add tags automatically.
Choose the right Template type
Template type | Use for |
Listing Alert Templates | Buyer-focused contacts: first-time buyers (affordable homes, condos), move-up buyers (larger homes, good schools), luxury buyers, investment buyers (multi-family, rental potential). Give each Template a specific tag matching the buyer profile. |
Market Activity Alert Templates | Seller contacts and contacts who need market insights: neighborhood-specific market reports and buyer-demand data. Use tags distinct from your Listing Alert Template tags. These alerts can also be shared on social media to attract contacts and showcase market insights. |
Both, for long-term nurture | Market Alerts offer popular listings and buyer demand insights; Listing Alerts can run on a weekly or monthly schedule, or hand-picked — see Alert Settings & Schedule Overview. |
Name your tags consistently
Spaces, hyphens, and underscores are distinct characters: buyer-new, buyer_new, and buyer new are three different tags. Use the exact format in RealScout that you use in Follow Up Boss.
RealScout cannot combine tags. If a Template needs a tag like "buyer new construction," create that exact tag in Follow Up Boss — separate "Buyer" and "New Construction" tags will not combine to match it.
Establish naming conventions before building Templates, and follow them in both systems.
Follow Up Boss supports spaces in tags — no need for underscores or hyphens.
Avoid generic tags like "buyer" — use specific tags that match a Template's criteria.

Troubleshoot tag automation
Alerts not being created. RealScout checks tags once per hour; tags added via Follow Up Boss automations or action plans can take an additional ~20–60 minutes to sync. Also verify exact spelling between the contact's tag and the Template tag — capitalization does not matter, spelling does.
Follow Up Boss tags not syncing to RealScout. Check that your Contact Import settings at realscout.com/agent/integrations allow newly tagged contacts to sync. Allow a few moments for agent-updated contacts and longer for automation-driven updates. If no alert was created within the expected window, email support@realscout.com with a screenshot of the Follow Up Boss contact, their tags, and the Template name or tag.
