Reverse Prospecting Overview for Listing Agents

Overview for you, the listing agent, on Reverse Prospecting and connecting with agents whose buyers match your listing.

How to Use Reverse Prospecting

Step 1: Claim Your Listing

Go to the Listing Tools tab, then click the My Listings tab to claim your listing.

Step 2: Open Reverse Prospecting

Once your listing is claimed, scroll down to the My Listing section. From here, you can view your listing's analytics or click View Reverse Prospecting to see matching agents.

Step 3: Check Eligibility

Reverse prospecting works for listings that are Coming Soon or Active. On this page, you'll see agents in your market who may have buyers matching your listing — and you can reach out to get your listing in front of them directly.

Contingent, Pending, and Sold listings aren't eligible. For those, you can still find matching buyers in your My Buyers tab, or reach out directly using your listing's shareable link. Off-market and pre-market homes aren't eligible either.

Listings under another agent's name aren't eligible for Reverse Prospecting unless you're a co-agent.

Want a preview before your listing goes live? Use RealScout's Test the Market report. If you'd rather not receive Reverse Prospecting outreach at all, you can request to have the feature disabled on your account.

Step 4: Sort and Review Your Matches

Every column on this page is sortable. Click any column header to sort by:

  • Agent Name

  • Company Name

  • Number of Matching Buyers

  • Agent Viewed Listing (whether the agent has viewed it)

  • Number of Buyers Who Have Viewed the Listing

  • Number of Buyers Who Have Clicked Interested

  • Message the Client, the Agent, or Continue a Conversation

  • Whether the agent has viewed or responded to your message

Step 5: Message the Buyer's Agent

Click Message Agent to send a custom, personalized message. This is what gets the buyer's agent engaged. Your message will include:

  • Your name

  • The listing in question

  • An easy way for them to view their matching buyers

  • A way to reply

It also includes the listing details, plus a note letting the agent know you can't see any of their buyers' contact information. Mass messaging is not available.

This is What the Buyer's Agent Can Do and Their View

While the Listing Agent cannot see the Buyer Agent's clients, the Buyer Agent can see them once you send a message. The Buyer's Agent can see any of their own buyers who've shown activity on or matched your listing. From there, they can:

  • Share the listing with their buyer

  • Use quick reply to respond to you quickly

  • Reply back to the Listing Agent with a custom message or a Yes or No

Tips

  • Personalize your messages to highlight how your listing meets a buyer's needs.

  • Follow up with agents who show interest to build stronger connections.

  • Use the insights Reverse Prospecting gives you to refine your marketing strategy.

  • If a listing isn't showing as expected, claimable, or active after an MLS update, use the support button in your account to share the MLS printout and/or the listing's current public URL.
